Secondary school girls in the vwo level of Dutch education (the level that prepares for studying at university, ed.) experience the most pressure from their schoolwork, according to a national study on youths’ wellbeing, conducted by UU scientists Dr Gonneke Stevens and Dr Margreet de Looze. Gloominess, fear, and psychosomatic complaints are linked to this pressure, and sometimes linger even when these pupils become students.
