You're shattered. You either feel like the victim in a horrorstory, or it feels like you're on cloud nine. Maybe you were caughtspeeding through a red light, by a stony-faced cop. Or a week agoyou saw such an earth-shattering movie that it still has you in itsgrip. Everybody knows the feeling and anything or anybody may causeit: colleagues, teachers, ex-spouses, the government, or fateitself. The U-blad editorial staff invites you to write a storyabout an experience which 'Shattered' you and send the result toour office. The European soccer championships are about to start. The U-bladand Trajectum (the Hogeschool van Utrecht newspaper) are givingevery would-be soccer pundit and every soccer ignoramus the chanceto try their luck. Debating contest

Last Saturday the Utrecht Debating Society (UDS) organized oneof the biggest debating contests ever. Twenty-eight teams from thewhole country fought it out in the Academiegebouw for a place inthe final. The judges for the competition included celebrities suchas journalist Martin van Amerongen, Utrecht University presidentJan Veldhuis, Minister Jan Pronk and mayor Brouwers-Korf. In theend Amsterdam won by defending the proposition that those countriesin the European Union which admit larger numbers of asylum seekers,deserve extra financial support.
