On July 17, 2014, flight MH17 was downed over Ukraine. One of the victims was Upper House member and professor Willem Witteveen who was traveling with his wife and daughter. This year marks the 10th anniversary of their deaths. For that reason, the Senate in cooperation with Tilburg University is organizing a contest and symposium this year.

What would you like Willem Witteveen to say, write, show or let us hear about the Netherlands ten years after the start of the war in Ukraine?
Share your thoughts, feelings or reflections in a form that appeals to you: a letter, essay, painting, poem or piece of music.

The three most beautiful, moving or wise submissions will win an all-expenses-paid day as a special guest of the Senate on Prince's Day 2024. Entries will also be published on the Senate website or displayed in the Senate building.

Entries can be sent in from May 1 to June 5. For more information and game rules, see: Wat zou Willem Witteveen maken? - Eerste Kamer der Staten-Generaal (in Dutch)
